“Single sessions of and long-term participation in physical activity improve cognitive performance and brain health. Children who participate in vigorous- or moderate-intensity physical activity benefit the most.” NIH Study

The statistics above can be disheartening, but Sun House Fitness is here to help. Our youth training programs are designed to motivate, inspire, and teach kids and teens not only the benefits of exercise but also that it’s fun. Our mission is to instill in them the love of fitness so that they grow up looking at a healthy lifestyle as a normal, integral part their lives. We do this by providing dynamic, engaging, workouts that build strength, increase endurance, and improve confidence. We challenge them and encourage them to challenge themselves.

Strength training and dynamic conditioning are as, and in some ways more, important for youth athletes who actively participate in sports. (see bottom of page)

The physical benefits of fitness are commonly known, but the cognitive (see NIH study above) and mental health affects can also be profound. Regular exercise improves brain function but can also mitigate stress, anxiety, sleep disorders, and self-esteem issues.

We also teach our young clients about the benefits of healthy eating habits in a way that they can understand. We advocate for a balanced approach, talk about the positive ways types of foods affect us, and encourage them to explore healthy eating choices.

We use positive reinforcement for heathy behaviors, and gently encourage moderation in everything else. Look, we eat brownies and play Fortnite too. We’re not insane!

So whether your sedentary child needs physical activity, your young athlete wants to improve sports performance, or you simply have a kid that wants to get stronger and more fit, we can help. We build stronger, healthier youth that learn to love fitness in an engaging,, supportive environment.

FOR THE YOUTH ATHLETE

“Is strength training important for sports?

The improvement of athletic performance in youth athletes is a complex task, and achieving high levels of athleticism requires a robust long-term plan. Sports participation alone, in many cases, does not offer sufficient stimulus to achieve this. Resistance training in all forms (e.g. strength, power or speed training) can help to attenuate these issues by protecting against injuries and positively affecting youth athletes’ physical literacy, thus, diminishing the impact of low physical activity and early sport specialisation among youths (7).

Stronger young athletes will be better prepared to learn complex movements, master sport tactics, and sustain the demands of training and competition (11). Thus, resistance training prescription should be based on an appropriate progression according to training age, motor skill competency, technical proficiency and existing strength levels. Another factor to consider is the biological age and psychosocial maturity level of the child or adolescent (1, 6).

A high level of muscular strength contributes to enhancing performance ability in young athletes. Moreover, it is also important to build a good base of fundamental movements during childhood and adolescence, as this will help the youths develop more efficient motor skills whilst simultaneously reducing their risk of injury due to improved body control and/or technique (11).”
